Our relationship with The Wildlife Trusts
The Wildlife Trusts is a federation of 46 local Wildlife Trusts across the UK, supported by a central charity - the Royal Society of Wildlife Trusts. Together, they care for thousands of wild places, bring people closer to nature, and lead efforts to restore nature on land and at sea.
The 24 Wildlife Trust Consultancies are affiliated to their local Wildlife Trust, and they return profits to their parent Trust. That means the expert ecological and environmental consultancy work they provide directly supports local conservation projects.
For large-scale programmes, The Royal Society of Wildlife Trusts (or simply referred to as The Wildlife Trusts) helps to coordinate activity across multiple Trusts and consultancies. This unique structure enables The Wildlife Trusts to deliver complex, nationwide projects efficiently while maintaining local expertise and community links.
Partnering and working with The Wildlife Trusts
Consultancy forms one aspect of our work with business, providing the specialist ecological expertise required for surveys, management plans and compliance. These collaborations often then develop into - or run alongside - long-term partnerships with The Wildlife Trusts.
These local and national partnerships deliver meaningful change for nature, people and climate through co-designed programmes. From engaging staff and customers, to transforming supply chains, to implementing nature-based solutions, every partnership contributes to our ambitious mission of protecting, connecting, and managing 30% of land and sea for nature’s recovery by 2030. They also help companies achieve their own Environmental Social Governance (ESG) targets.

Examples of partnerships with The Wildlife Trusts
Our partnerships with businesses span sectors and scales - from nationwide collaborations to local initiatives that deliver tangible outcomes for nature, people and climate
National Highways
A five-year partnership delivering 51 projects across 24 Wildlife Trusts to mitigate the ecological impacts of historic road building. So far, this work has generated over 3,600 biodiversity units and created, enhanced, or restored 2,300 hectares of habitat across England.
Jordans Farm Partnership
A decade-long collaboration helping 27 farmers grow oats in harmony with nature. Through this partnership, over 4,300 hectares of farmland are now managed for wildlife, under an industry-leading standard developed by Jordans, The Wildlife Trusts, and LEAF (Linking Environment and Farming).
Intact Insurance
A two-year partnership funding the delivery of natural flood management (NFM) solutions in Gloucester and Cheltenham. Intact also supports research assessing the long-term benefits of NFM projects. Early findings indicate that every £1 invested could deliver £10 of benefits over 30 years.
Biodiversity Benchmark Land Management
Through our land management services, we help landowning businesses make a measurable impact for nature. More than 8,200 hectares across 50 sites managed by 17 organisations have been certified by The Wildlife Trusts under the Biodiversity Benchmark — the UK’s only standard recognising management systems designed to continually enhance and protect biodiversity. Developed to complement ISO 14001, the Benchmark demonstrates genuine, ongoing commitment to environmental stewardship.
