Case Study - UK Wide Mitigation Research
The Wildlife Trust Consultancies, co-ordinated by EMEC Ecology, undertook a major national survey of roads which cross waterways for Highways England. Providing essential advice and mitigation measures.
Otters are highly territorial animals with large home ranges. Depending on the quality of the habitat and availability of food males can range along rivers for 35km.
The surveys involved specially trained surveyors from our UK wide network of consultancies who were able to provide a unique local perspective. The survey included over 1500 river crossings across 21 English counties and identified potential danger points for the growing Otter population. Our ecologists provided advice in which road casualties could be minimised.
